RomsCentral is an independently operated technical knowledge base for people who use emulators to understand, configure, and preserve classic game systems.

What RomsCentral is today

The RomsCentral domain has a history in retro-gaming communities dating back to the mid-2000s. The current site is a new, independent publication. It is not presented as the original team, and it does not claim continuous operation from the earlier site.

Our editorial focus is practical: emulator setup, compatibility diagnosis, controller configuration, video and audio troubleshooting, save-file handling, file formats, checksums, firmware concepts, and responsible digital preservation.

What we do not provide

RomsCentral does not host or distribute copyrighted game ROMs, console firmware, BIOS files, cracks, keys, or misleading download buttons. A guide may explain what a ROM image or firmware file is, how software locates it, and how to verify a personal backup, but it will not direct readers to unauthorized copies.

How guides are prepared

Project-specific instructions are checked against the emulator project’s current documentation, source repository, wiki, or release notes. Menu names and file locations can change, so each guide identifies its scope and points readers to the relevant upstream project when appropriate.

We separate native in-game saves from emulator save states, distinguish required system files from optional accuracy enhancements, and avoid claiming compatibility or performance results that have not been documented or reproduced.

If a guide contains an outdated menu name, an incorrect path, or a broken official reference, please use the contact page. A public contact channel will be confirmed before the site is opened to search engines.
